Lessons Learned in Meaningful and Inclusive Youth Engagement (MIYE)
The USAID-funded YouthPower2: Learning and Evaluation (YP2LE) project (2019-2024) was designed to promote Meaningful and Inclusive Youth Engagement (MIYE) in alignment with Positive Youth Development (PYD) principles. Through activities such as advancing the PYD Learning Agenda, expanding the Learning Network, and enhancing YouthPower.org and YouthLead.org platforms, YP2LE integrated youth engagement strategies across its core tasks. The Lessons Learned in Youth Engagement (LLYE) Activity, co-led by YP2LE’s Youth Advisory Group, conducted participatory research from September 2023 to July 2024 to identify effective MIYE approaches and offer actionable recommendations for future USAID programs.
This report provides insights for USAID Missions, Bureaus, Independent Offices, and Implementing Partners on improving youth engagement strategies in development initiatives. It includes key findings, challenges, and recommendations drawn from four case studies, which focus on youth engagement in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean, Ghana, Colombia, and the Digital Youth Council. Additional resources, including detailed case studies and recommendations, are available for further exploration.
